Inconveniences / Uncertainties

Like all food, we can’t feed ourselves only on insects. For a right balanced diet we need multiple sources of minerals, sugar, proteins, etc for example. So insects can’t be the only protein’s source.

The crunchy texture can be repulsive

The taste can please some people but some other may not like it. We read that insects taste like nuts; some taste like hazelnuts, others more like walnuts. But a lot of people don’t like these flavours.
The visual appearance of insects can also be repulsive especially for European populations.

All those repulsions are induced by people who condition their children to be disgusted by insects.

Uncertainties / Doubts

The law for edible insects is very different according to the different world regions.

For example in Europe, there are some countries which allowed the production and the consumption whereas other countries forbid both.

In France, until recently, the law said that insects were not allowed for sale for human consumption. Only some products based on insects could be sold for animals’ food.

There were already some French companies (like Micronutris) which did not respect the law but were not punished.

But since 1st January 2018, French law has changed and now 10 species are authorized for human consumption
